看老外對台灣的回憶, 挺好玩的

Memories of Taiwan

Food
We boiled all our drinking water and kept it in large glass jars in

Because we had Chinese cooks we ate a lot of Chinese food. Green pepper beef has always been a favorite dish of mine. Lao Du could make fancy dishes too and once or twice our parents had us taste them before they told us their names just to see our reaction. “Ants climbing trees” [mayi shang shu] was one such dish that my sister Anne and I didn’t want to eat again. Octopus tasted good too until we heard what it was. But we did get our share of Western food too. Every afternoon after coming home from school we demanded to be fed “Ah Yu! Snack!” My favorite snack was a sandwich with two slices of tinned corned beef covered with a thick layer of peanut butter gulped down with a cold bottle of Coke. The sandwich stuck to the roof of my mouth and I could taste it later when I burped.
